An all-round utility knife was the design brief here. 

It came about following a conversation with a serving soldier, when Jake asked what a modern infantry knife is for. 

“Ninety-nine percent of the time you’re making fire, chopping wood, and buttering your toast,” was his reply.

This particular useful thing is a robust blade.

A scraper/pry bar/glass breaker for 1001 uses, and a blade which is generous enough to baton through wood, yet delicate enough to skin game and eat your dinner with. 

The handle material is either sunburst or black Micarta, which is impervious to water, won’t warp or crack, and has a warm touch. 

It is the superlative handle material for knives. Sandvik 14C28N stainless, which is one of the best knife-specific steels on earth, with a rockwell hardness of around 59-60. 

No Chinese mystery steels here. Corby bolts give you a mechanical fastening for the handle scales. That’s why it’s guaranteed for life. Italian leather sheath hand-stitched in my workshop, because a leather sheath is one of life’s pleasures.
