Tucked into Hampshire's Meon Valley, St. Clair's offers relaxed, professionally run game shooting days, with pheasant and partridge shooting across 1,000 acres of open farmland, ancient woodland, tree belts and well-kept cover crops.
A day at St. Clair's is about more than good sport. It is testing birds, varied drives, proper estate hospitality and the easy welcome of a family-run Hampshire shoot. The team run the day with care and quiet professionalism, creating the sort of atmosphere that brings guns back season after season. With around 600 acres of arable ground and 400 acres of woodland, the estate can offer a lovely mix of ground and presentations. Drives take in stubbles, grassland, mature timber, woodland rides and occasional water, with early-season partridge shooting building into mixed pheasant and partridge days as the season moves on.
The Head Keeper has spent years bringing the ground on, and it shows in the quality and variety of the shooting. The beating and picking-up teams are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient, helping the day flow without feeling rushed. Most days are planned around strong but sustainable bags, with 200 to 250 bird days a normal benchmark across the season.
Farming and conservation are closely tied to the shoot, with maize, dwarf sorghum and set-aside cover forming part of the estate's countryside stewardship. It is careful, thoughtful management that supports the birds, improves the ground and gives St. Clair's its character, from quick partridges to testing pheasants and a smooth day from the first drive to the last.
