Picture this: Butch Cassidy, the legendary outlaw, seeking refuge in the most unlikely of places, a Welsh-speaking colony nestled in Argentina's remote Chubut Valley. At the Touring Club hotel in Patagonia, surrounded by Welsh settlers speaking their native tongue thousands of miles from home, what small utility tool would have hung from his belt? What blade would have served him through his South American exile around 1901?

This is the story behind the Butch Bach (meaning "little Butch" in Welsh) born from a collaboration with Smorgasbord Studio that began in 2020 and continues to inspire us today.

The connection was irresistible: Butch Cassidy was indeed a patron of that peculiar Welsh colonial outpost, making the Touring Club his temporary sanctuary as he navigated life on the run in South America. From this fascinating historical thread, we imagined his essential carry, a compact, capable blade that could handle whatever frontier life demanded.

After countless iterations, the Butch Bach emerged as a refined three-finger knife, perfectly sized for belt, pocket, or pack. Crafted with 3mm Sandvik 14C28N steel for exceptional edge retention, fitted with durable micarta scales, and secured with reliable Corby bolts, it embodies the practical elegance Cassidy would have appreciated.
