Introduction
Versions / Sizes
There are four sizes, from the left: Micro Streamer, Compact Streamer, Streamer and Heavy Streamer. The Heavy Streamer is shown with the Quick Detach Lock (QDL) attachment, the others are all Direct Thread (DT).
For easy comparison, the specs of all are listed below. There are many variables in how sound reduction is calculated so those figures are only a guide and will differ depending on calibre, velocity, atmospheric conditions etc.
Length: 108 mm
Diameter: 42 mm
Weight Stainless: 250g
Weight Aluminium: 200g
QDL Adds: 70g
Sound Reduction: 18-22 dB
Length: 150 mm
Diameter: 42 mm
Weight Stainless: 340g
Weight Aluminium: 270g
QDL Adds: 70g
Sound Reduction: 23-32 dB
Length: 195 mm
Diameter: 42 mm
Weight Stainless: 460g
Weight Aluminium: 330g
QDL Adds: 70g
Sound Reduction: 25-36 dB
The Heavy Streamer is a beast, it's designed for magnum calibres and heavy machine guns! If you're looking to moderate something like .338 Lapua Magnum this is what you want. Its specifications also make it incredibly effective on 7.62 & .308 rifles:
Length: 195 mm
Diameter: 48 mm
Weight Stainless: 650g
Weight Aluminium: 550g
QDL Adds: 70g
Sound Reduction: 25-36 dB
DT, QD & QDL - What's the difference?

Direct Thread or DT for short screws directly to the threads at the muzzle of the barrel with no need for a muzzle device.
All common threads are available including 1/2x28, 5/8x24, M15x1 & M18x1.
Quick Detach or QD for short has a thread of M27x1.5 allowing it to fit muzzle devices with the same externally.
The reduced length of the threads allow it to be fitted and removed within 3 full rotations.
Quick Detach Lock or QDL for short is the same concept as QD, but there is a further collar that locks to the muzzle device.
Once the mod is threaded to the muzzle device the collar is tightened to secure it.
For the QD and QDL versions you have the choice of a B1 birdcage style muzzle device or muzzle brake. The QD (M27x1.5) moderators will also fit ASE muzzle devices with the same external thread.
IMPORTANT NOTE: QD and QDL are not interchangeable and require different muzzle devices. A QD suppressor can not be used on a QDL muzzle device.
Calibre Sizes
There are four calibre sizes that are all listed in millimetres 5.56, 6.5, 7.62 and 9.00. Each measurement represents the maximum sized projectile that can pass through the device. The table below gives representations of which size should be chosen for a given calibre, however is not exhaustive.
.22LR, .204RUG, .22-250REM, .223REM, 5.45x39, 5.56x45
.243WIN, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5x55 SWE, 6.5 Creedmoor
.270WIN, 7mm PRC, .308WIN, 7.62x51, 7.62x39, .300AAC
.357MAG, .38 Special, 9x19 Parabellum, .338 Lapua Magnum
Steel vs. Aluminium
You'll see in the specs that there is a steel and aluminium version of each moderator, this solely refers to the material the outer tube is made of. The baffles in all of the Silent Steel suppressors are made of steel.
For normal use on section 1 firearms in the UK the aluminium version is the best choice as it's the lightest option. The steel versions are designed for extreme use scenarios where sustained fully automatic fire is required.
The exception to this is magnum calibres and the Heavy Streamer, which only comes in a steel version, as the increased pressure of these is better suited to the steel outer tube.
Baffle vs. Flow
For those that have been to the Silent Steel website for further research you'll note that there are both Baffle and Flow versions of the moderators. The Flow versions are for use on semi and fully automatic firearms and are designed to push gases forward so that they don't create pressure problems in the rifle's gas system.
The Flow system has no relevance on section 1 firearms, including semi-auto .22LR rifles, and is only available for MLE sales not retail.
Our Recommendations
.22LR AR15
- Micro Baffle Streamer QD Aluminium with B1 QD Muzzle Device @ £350
- Light and very quiet, the most cost effective option
- Can also be used with .223REM / 5.56 for the cost of another muzzle device (£95)
- Micro Baffle Streamer QDL Aluminium with B1 QDL Muzzle Device @ £390
- 70g more weight than QD, but with added locking function
- Can also be used with .223REM / 5.56 for the cost of another muzzle device (£95)
.223REM / 5.56 AR15
- Compact Baffle Streamer QDL Aluminium with QDL Muzzle Brake @ £525
- Better sound reduction compared to the Micro Baffle Streamer
- Can also be used on .22LR for the cost of another muzzle device (£95)
.357MAG / .38 Special Underlevers
- Micro Baffle Streamer DT Aluminium @ £255
- Only 105mm long to keep OAL short
- Good sound reduction and attractive appearance
- Compact Baffle Streamer DT Aluminium @ £365
- Longer at 150mm, but better sound reduction
- Still looks good despite greater OAL
Note: Currently there are no 5/8x24 muzzle devices for the 9.0 calibre so DT is the only option.
.308WIN / 7.62 & Other Target Calibres
- Baffle Streamer QDL Aluminium with QDL Muzzle Brake @ £555
- Excellent sound reduction
- Can be used across multiple rifles / calibres with additional muzzle brake
- For .223REM and 6.5CDMR use 6.5 calibre
- For 6.5CDMR and .308WIN use 7.62 calibre
Magnum Target Calibres
- Heavy Baffle Streamer QD Stainless Steel with QD Muzzle Brake @ £615
- Almost indestructible and rated well beyond a bolt action rifle's capabilities.
- Can be used across multiple rifles / calibres with an additional muzzle brake
Hunting Rifles
- Compact Baffle Streamer DT Aluminium @ £365
- Weighs only 270 grams
- Only 150mm long
